To configure a stock OLPC XO-1 to use Protoweb, you will need to first connect to a Wi-Fi network and open the Web Activity. This is a Gecko based web browser, so advanced settings can be accessed using about:config in the address bar. The manual is written using the OLPC operating system version 8.2.0 (also known as build 767 or Give 1 Get 1 2008 campaign edition).

    • In the address bar, type about:config
    • Type in the Filter text box: “proxy”
    • Fill in the address “wayback.protoweb.org” for network.proxy.ftp and network.proxy.http (or whatever URL is current, see Proxy server list)
    • Fill in port “7851” for both network.proxy.ftp_port and network.proxy.http_port (or whatever port number is current, see Proxy server list)
    • Change network.proxy.type from “5” to “1”
    • When all settings have been updated, you should have this view. Note that user-defined settings are highlighted in bold text. To undo the proxy settings, just change network.proxy.type back to “5”.

If everything is working, you should be able to open up welcome.inode.com and www.inode.com pages.
