You may connect to any of the current active proxy servers using the address and port numbers below. Use this list as a reference when configuring your web browser. For a comprehensive guide, please see Getting Started.

This list will be periodically changed to prevent service abuse. New addresses and port numbers will be updated here, and announced in social media channels.

    Terms of Use #

By using any of the Protoweb services, you agree to the terms outlined in the User Agreement.

    Optional: Automatic Proxy Configuration #

If your web browser supports Automatic Proxy Configuration, you may want to use it instead to provide redundancy and automatic updates should the proxy server addresses and port numbers change (refer to “Proxy auto-config” below). Use of the Proxy auto-config is optional.

Automatic Configuration is supported by the following web browsers:

    • Netscape Navigator 2.0+ and newer
    • Internet Explorer 4.0+ and newer.

    Primary Proxy Server #

This server simulates a T1 connection.

    Location: Dallas, Texas

    FTPwayback.protoweb.org7851
    Proxy auto-configwww.steptail.com/proxy1.pac

    Alternate Proxy Server #

This server simulates a T1 connection. You can use this server if you are having slowdown or trouble connecting to the primary server or any of the connection simulated servers. This server is sponsored by TheSerialPort.

Location: Raleigh, North Carolina. Synchronized to primary network once a week.

    Connection Simulated Servers #

These servers shape traffic to simulate one of several connection speeds. You must set this server as both your HTTP and FTP server.

    Auxiliary Services #

As a bonus value-add, we also semi-officially run extra services, such as an IRC channel, BBS and online games for Protoweb users and anyone interested in our project.

    Bulletin Board System #

    Server: bbs.protoweb.org
    Port: 23

This is a synchronet server that has message boards. It also includes a usenet server bridge:

    Server: news.protoweb.org
    Port: 119

You need to create an account on the bbs first before being able to post via usenet. You need to login with your bbs creds in your news client.

They’re both standard servers so you can connect with any telnet / usenet client.

    Internet Relay Chat #

We now have an IRC channel that is linked to our Discord server.

Join us with your favorite IRC client at:

    Server: irc.libera.chat
    Port: 6667
    Channel: #protoweb

    Online Games #

    Half-Life and mods #

To join a game, go to Internet games (or Play online), then in the server list, click Add server (or Add IP) and type in the corresponding server address below. It will be automatically favorited and you can filter the server listing by favorites.

Important! To play, your game client version must match that of the server version, which is 1.1.1.0. If you’re on an earlier version, you can update to 1.1.1.0 by downloading the patch from the iNode FTP (ftp://ftp.inode.com/pub/win32/games/half-life/hl1110.exe).

Then download the woncomm.lst file (from ftp://ftp.inode.com/pub/win32/games/half-life/woncomm.lst) and place it under your game’s /valve/ directory to restore Internet Games Listings. If you installed to the default path, the file should be in C:\SIERRA\Half-Life\valve\.
