You are currently viewing www.starfox64.com – “We need your help Star Fox!”

Calling all Nintendo fans with this one! This submission is for a critically acclaimed entry in the Star Fox series when the game started to fly to third dimension. Pilots get ready to fly through the web, because www.starfox64.com from 1998 it’s available on Protoweb!

This is promotional site for the then upcoming the new video game Star Fox 64, A website featuring a couple of pages explaining all the story of the game and new exciting features, Like the 3-D environment of the game as a whole, The real time voice dialogue that even the website has some downloadables .wav files for a few voice lines, All new vehicles transformations and the new Rumble Pak, An accessory that added rumble to the N64 Controller, Something that revolutionized the video game controlled as we know today and came included if you bought Star Fox 64 back in the day, A game that’s still a must have for anyone who wants to experience the N64 library.

The earliest mention of the website i find out was in a promotional VHS for the game that customers could get via mail or retails outlet free of charge, as a part of video tapes that were made by Nintendo Power to put content for all fans to get the latest news for upcoming (And in my personal opinion this one it’s the best out all of the rest), This video tape was released on 1997 a year earlier than the one we have at Wayback Machine, This might be one of the earliest sites that promoted the game with it’s own domain because most promotional sites for Nintendo games didn’t start appearing until 1998, And because of that i decided to pick this up for my next restoration.

For this site restoration, the page was in great condition as it was, Since the page was up for a long time until 2001-ish (?), Meaning that things like the Download page was thankfully all persevered to all to enjoy, But even with the great state it was there was still a bit of work to do to before publish it, Like the missing images.

So i began the search and work to restoring the images, And i was really lucky to find some, I found some in the Germany website of Star Fox 64 (Lylat Wars) to fully restore the Rumble Pack page, One image in an abandoned fan site of the game to restore the one missing image of the Downloads page and find the blueprint image of the Arwing in fan wikis, But in the end i had to manually restore 3 images, The button for the enemies page, One missing image on the Player’s Guide, Low quality .jpg previews in the vehicles page and One missing image on Falco’s page, Some of the images are probably not exactly the exact match since i couldn’t find it anywhere on the web, So those end up as interpretations of what i think it would look like in the website and tried my best to match it with color balance and compression using other images as reference, In my personal opinion i couldn’t get it as accurate as i want it to be since i have REALLY knowledge of color balance, It’s not perfect but hopefully for the untrained eye it won’t look out of place along side the original images.

And after blanking out some missing assets, The site was done! Ready to visit and explore. While I haven’t played the game before, I just got an original N64 some weeks ago. I will definitely check it out someday now in my game list. I hope you guys enjoy this little piece of Nintendo on the Internet for you to explore. Thank you for reading this new blog entry, And I hope to see you very very soon 😉
