Leonardo DiCaprio is someone who I really only know through the movies he starred in later in his career, like Django Unchained and Shutter Island. I knew about Titanic and the fact that it made boatloads of money (haha get it), but it’s a movie that I’ve never seen nor care enough to watch. Therefore, when I found this in the K-CD collection, I was rather surprised. Sure, it was a popular movie, but this was a Scandinavian shovelware disk. Why was a fansite dedicated to the lead actor included?

So, I did some research. It seems that, following the release of Titanic, Leonardo DiCaprio became the creepy, stalker-like obsession of every teenage girl on the planet. They crowned him as their God and worshipped him until he reached the age of thirty, thus becoming a senior citizen and forcing them to abandon ship (haha get it x2) and find the next person to drool over. I had no idea about any of this and mostly just thought of him as a good actor. It’s well-archived and the guy seems to have been a major pop icon during the late nineties, so I figured it’d be a good one to restore.

Then, I discovered something. Dicaprio.com has a primitive message board; this isn’t all that remarkable, lots of websites had one, but what makes this one in particular so special is the fact that it is totally unmoderated. It is an absolute hellhole; it’s filled with spam, trolls, and even has a flamewar. Keep in mind that this board wasn’t open for very long before it was archived, so it went down in flames the instant it opened up.

Outside of that, however, it’s mostly just your typical fansite from the 90s. It’s definitely more professional than most, but it’s still fairly standard, all things considered.
