Protoweb thanks everyone for an absolutely awesome 2024. This year we saw 15 new volunteers hop on the project, and a whopping 31 new sites launched! We’d like to especially recognize @Davathan for launching a mind numbing seven new websites. Up in the running we have @mariteaux who launched four new sites and @Stubbertville and @xerox303 who both published three new sites. Congrats!
We’d like to additionally recognize @Davathan for the numerous improvements on our Discord server including our new site suggestions channel, IRC bridge enhancements, moderation help and a warm and helpful community engagement. A BIG thank you for your service!
In January Protoweb teamed up with P3OL project to bring Protoweb Internet to the America Online restoration project.
We also teamed up with Windows Update Restored to provide a seamless experience with classic Windows Update.
We were also excited to see Thomas Galleger, the creator of the first weather.com site, demonstrate his original site to his son now that it is back online.
In September the very first networked museum exhibit utilizing Protoweb was opened. The exhibit, called Netcafe opened at The National Communication Museum in Hawthorn, near Melbourne Australia. The exhibit features several computers from the 90’s running Protoweb, a period correct version of the Internet during the Internet Cafe’s heyday.
During the same month, Protoweb also exhibited it’s services at it’s very first convention presence at Vintage Computing Festival Midwest to let people try the service out.
All in all, this has been a great year for Protoweb and we hope it has been a great year for you too. It is all thanks to your effort for making Protoweb a success.
